Yes – your privacy and security are guaranteed at every step. We will never share or sell your data. Your saliva sample and DNA results are only identifiable via an anonymized barcode system. Your DNA results are stored on encrypted HIPAA-compliant servers, completely separate from servers that contain any personal information. Your kit will be shipped within 24 hours of your purchase and transit time is typically 1 to 3 days depending on your location. Shipping is free and tracking info will be emailed to you once your kit leaves our warehouse.

In order to get your results quickly, we encourage you to use your kit the same day or the next day that it arrives, as our lab processes samples on a first-come, first-served basis. Just make sure you don’t eat or drink anything for at least 30 minutes before providing your saliva sample.

Yes – your physical saliva sample will be destroyed after it has been processed by our lab. We have a strict no biobanking policy to guarantee your privacy. You’ll be able to view your DNA results and report by logging into your account.

The best way to obtain a DNA sample is by spitting in a saliva collection tube. It is a fast, non-invasive, and painless collection method compared to blood and hair sampling. We use a tube instead of a cheek swab because clinical studies show that a swab may not always collect a sufficient amount of DNA required for accurate testing. A swab, therefore, has a much higher error rate at the lab, requiring more retesting.

In general, you won’t need to do another DNA test. In very rare instances, we may ask you to do a retest if your saliva sample was compromised – for example, this can happen if you eat or drink something right before spitting in the tube. We will promptly notify you and send you a free kit if a retest is ever needed.

Not at this moment. We target specific genetic markers related to nutrigenomics and many of these markers are not included with standard DNA tests from companies like 23andme and Ancestry.com. However, we are working on an upload capability so that customers can upload their data and get partial coverage for the markers that do overlap with our test.

Your saliva contains DNA from cells in your mouth. When you send your saliva sample to our certified lab, our geneticists will extract the DNA from your saliva. Your DNA then gets processed on a genotyping chip that targets specific markers in your DNA to look for variants. When genotyping is complete, your results will be presented in your nutrigenomic report.

Our medical pharmacy will sort your personalized vitamins for you into daily morning and night packs. Your morning vitamins can either be taken with food or up to an hour before or after eating. Your night time vitamins should be taken after eating.

We definitely encourage you to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet. However, consuming a diet that contains all of the nutrients your body needs is hard to achieve consistently – for example, a nutrient like Omega-3 comes from eating fatty fish which may not be feasible every day. A busy lifestyle, stress, and environmental factors out of our control also contribute to the fact that most Americans are deficient in several essential nutrients. Any changes will take effect starting with your next month’s shipment.

We accept returns for unopened test kits with no questions asked. We won’t be able to accept returns for your personalized vitamins as they are made specifically for you. If you experience any issues or have questions, please contact us via email at hello@alumia.com and we’ll be happy to help.

We offer free shipping on all test kit orders and also when you ship your sample back to our lab. We also offer free shipping on your first month of vitamins, as well as all future months for orders over $25.
