Top up your balance

Add USD funds to your org via the in-chat card or the Billing page.

Funds in Alumia are real USD held against your org. They do not expire and there is no subscription. You add funds in one of two places — in the chat panel when a paid request hits an empty balance, or directly from the Billing page at any time.

Path A: top up from the chat panel

When an agent tries to run a paid model with no balance, the chat panel surfaces a yellow card titled Your balance is empty with the message "Add funds to your billing balance before running paid models." It includes two actions:

  1. Add funds — opens the top-up dialog inline.
  2. Manage billing — link to /<orgSlug>/billing.

Click Add funds. You stay in the lab; no tab switch needed.

Path B: top up from the Billing page

Navigate to /<orgSlug>/billing. The same Add funds button lives at the top of the balance card. Click it to open the same dialog.

The Add funds dialog

The dialog title is Add funds, with the description: "Top up your balance. Funds are held in your org and used as you go — no subscription, no expiry."

Pick an amount. Four presets are offered: $10, $25 (badged Common), $50, $100. Or type a custom amount in USD — the field accepts decimals ($25.00) and validates against the platform min and max.

Click Continue to checkout · $X.XX. The button label updates with the chosen amount. The dialog calls Alumia's deposit endpoint, which creates a Stripe Checkout session and redirects your browser to Stripe.

Stripe checkout

Stripe handles card entry, 3-D Secure, and any local-payment-method requirements (Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc., depending on your region). Complete payment.

On success, Stripe redirects back to the app and the page reloads. Your new balance appears in the lab balance pill and on /<orgSlug>/billing.

What happens to the funds

  • The deposit lands as USD against your org balance.
  • The first $100 in cumulative deposits has the 5.5% platform fee waived; deposits past that include the standard fee. See Billing for details.
  • The first 1,000 users on the platform also receive an additional $10 promotional signup credit, separate from any deposit.
  • Auto-top-up can be configured from /<orgSlug>/billing so the balance never goes empty mid-session.

Verify

Send a message in the lab on any paid model. The balance pill ticks down as the request finishes, and the request shows up in /<orgSlug>/billing under usage. If you instead see a 402 PAYMENT_REQUIRED error, the funds did not land — see Troubleshooting.
